The Swachhata Hi Seva Campaign 2024 on Central Railway which began on September 17, 2024 concluded on October 2, 2024 with various activities and events.

Dharam Veer Meena, General Manager Central Railway, paid homage to Mahatma Gandhi, Father of the Nation and Lal Bahadur Shastry, former Prime Minister amid chanting of Ramdhun at the Suburban concourse, CSMT. He also appreciated the huge rangoli of Mahatma Gandhi displayed in front of the Suburban lobby.

The General Manager inspected and flagged off 2 EMU rakes from platform no 2 and 3 specially decorated with photos of Mahatma Gandhi and Swachhata slogans on the interior and exterior of the rakes to coincide with the occasion. He also watched the Nukkad Natak “Come on India” organized by Central Railway Cultural Academy and presented jointly by the artistes of Matunga and Parel Workshops.

Meena later visited the exhibition on the theme” Waste To Art” organized by the Environment and Housekeeping Management department wherein Station Cleaning Machines, High pressure cold water jet machines, Water purifiers (running without electricity), Steam Engine model made from Scrap material and Flower pots made from discarded plastic bottles were displayed.

Moving on to the CSMT Main line platforms, the General Manager inspected a Diesel locomotive specially decorated with photo of Mahatma Gandhi and his message of cleanliness. Concluding the event, Meena flagged off a Swachhata rally involving housekeeping staff, Scouts & Guides and Civil Defence volunteers reinforcing the commitment to cleanliness and the Swachh Bharat Mission.

Prabhat Ranjan, Additional General Manager, Sunil Kumar, Principal Chief Mechanical Engineer, S S Gupta, Principal Chief Operations Manager, Rajneesh Mathur, Principal Chief Engineer, Saharsh Vajpayee, Principal Chief Personnel Officer, Avanish Kumar Pandey, Chief Administrative Officer (Construction), Rajnish Goyal, Divisional Railway Manager, Mumbai division, Other Principal Head of Departments and Senior Officers of Headquarters and Mumbai Division of Central Railway were also present.

Similar activities were also carried out in Pune, Nagpur, Solapur and Bhusaval divisions of Central Railway.

On Solapur Division, a massive Shramdaan was conducted in which more than 200 people participated. A Nukkad Natak for awareness on cleanliness was also staged in addition to various other events.

On Pune Division, mass shramdan, Track cleaning programme, etc were organized at various units with public participation at Pune, Pimpari, Akurdi, Chinchwad, Satara, Miraj, Kolhapur, etc. Swachhata rallies were organized at various places with station cleaning staff, technicians, licenced porters, etc. holding placards & banners.

On Nagpur Division a mass cleaning effort was executed, involving more than 550 participants from the railway staff and representatives of private organizations including the Sant Nirankari Mandal, Nagpur branch. Besides Shramdaan and Swachhata rallies were also organised at various places.

On Bhusaval Division, shramdaan and other cleaning activities were organised at various places. Besides Swachhata Prabhat rallies were also organised to spread awareness on cleanliness.

The Swachhata Hi Seva Campaign emphasizes the importance of cleanliness and sustainable waste management. This year's campaign is particularly significant as it coincides with the 10th anniversary of the Swachh Bharat Mission, underscoring the ongoing commitment to improving sanitation and hygiene across the country.
