The University of Queensland (UQ), Australia, and the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi), has started the application process for the joint Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) program to be held at the UQ-IIT Delhi Research Academy (UQIDAR), IIT Delhi.

The application deadline for the Joint PhD program is open until 3 October, 2024. The program will commence in January 2025 for which UQIDAR has invited exceptional candidates with a background in science, technology, engineering, mathematics, healthcare, humanities, or social sciences.

As part of the program, students will engage and spend time with both the institutions. Upon successful completion, they will be awarded a joint Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree from both universities. Not only will the students studying this program have access to both institutions' academic facilities and resources, they will also receive fellowships and research travel grants provided by the UQIDAR.

Important Dates for Application Process 

The deadline to apply for the UQ-IIT joint PhD degree is 3 October, 2024. The shortlisted candidates will be invited for an interview on 3 November, 2024. The offers for selected candidates will be sent out 9 December, 2024 and the course will commence in January 2025.

Programme duration and Assessment

The joint Phd Degree is a full time course of up to four years. The students will be required to submit a thesis of maximum 80,000 words describing the significance of and originality of their research in the chosen field of study. 

According to the official notification, "While a valid GATE, GRE, NET, or CSIR score (or any competitive entrance test score) is not mandatory, successful candidates are expected to have competitive scores in these exams."
