DIMAPUR — Curtains fell on the three-day Ahuna Festival, organised by Sümi Hoho at Zunheboto public ground, on Thursday—marking the end of a post-harvest revelry that celebrated Sümi heritage, fostered unity, and reflected the resilience and vibrancy of Sümi culture. A press release issued by Sümi Hoho informed that the celebrations came to an end with Advisor for Food and Civil Supplies, Legal Metrology, K Tokugha Sukhalu, officiating as the Ahuna Papu (Ahuna Father). Addressing a large gathering, Sukhalu underscored the importance of preserving the traditions, customs, and values of Sümi ancestors while adapting them for future progress. He highlighted Zunheboto’s rich legacy, noting it as one of Nagaland’s oldest districts after Kohima, Mokokchung, and Tuensang, having been established in 1973. He urged the Sümi people to respect their heritage while embracing the changes brought by modernisation. “With progress, some traditions will evolve, but the core values of honesty, hard work, generosity, courage, and community must remain intact,” he emphasised.
