DIMAPUR — The culmination programme of Swachhata Hi Seva campaign, organised by the district administration and Longleng Town Council (LTC) was held at DPDB hall in Longleng town on October 2. According to a DIPR report, the deputy commissioner (DC) of Longleng, W Manpai Phom, was the special guest of the event held on the theme ‘Cleanliness of nature-cleanliness of culture.’ In his address, the special guest said that Mahatma Gandhi’s vision was not only to bring independence to India, but he also focused on sanitation and cleanliness to make India a developed nation not only in terms of infrastructure development but all-round development. Speaking on global issues like global warming with plastic being the main culprit, the DC emphasised that disposal of waste should be done properly with minimum effect on the environment. He also stressed on the need for waste segregation and called for collective effort to maintain sanitation and cleanliness. Stating that though the town council may provide broad overview and guidelines on sanitation, Phom, however, maintained that without the support and active involvement of the public, nothing much can be achieved.
