DIMAPUR — World Environmental Health Day was observed on Thursday in various districts of the state. In Tuensang town, the day was observed at the town council office, organised by the District Health Society (DHS) in collaboration with the Tuensang Town Council. On the occasion, District Epidemiologist, District Surveillance Unit (Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme), Dr. John Saphao raised awareness about the impact of the health environment, health practices, hygiene, judicious water use, and the maintenance of plastic waste. He demonstrated proper handwashing techniques. A health screening was also conducted, during which a total of 28 sanitary workers were registered. Additionally, free PPE kits, N95 masks, and medicines were distributed. The Assam Rifles commemorated the day with a cleanliness drive at Government Higher Secondary School, Bhandari. The event saw participation from 110 students and eight teachers. The force also observed the day in Dimapur at Kin High School with an awareness lecture, a cleanliness drive, and a tree plantation initiative.
