DIPHU — A three-day celebration of the 73rd Karbi Anglong Day, the erstwhile Mikir Hills district, got underway at Taralangso on November 16. The celebrations showcased rich cultural heritage presented by different ethnic tribes and communities inhabited in the region. The main highlights of the event included showcasing of cultural exchange of the ethnic tribes by the Sixth Scheduled autonomous councils of Northeast India, ethnic culinary exhibition, showcase of traditional weaving and traditional bamboo, wood and cane craft exhibition. As part of the celebration, the chief executive member (CEM) of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC), Tuliram Ronghang, hoisted the national flag at Taralangso, which was followed by paying of homage to the departed past leaders, who have contributed to the founding of the district. He was joined by KAAC chairman, Raju Tisso; MLA Dorsing Ronghang and Bidyasing Engleng and executive members and member of autonomous council (MAC). Participating in the open session, Ronghang said, “The district was founded on November 17, 1951.
