Una, July 29

The Una administration today felicitated Virendra Singh, captain of the Indian Men's Deaf T-20 cricket team, which recently won the series in England. Virendra, who hails from Amb in Una district, was given a Rs 51,000 cheque by Deputy Commissioner Jatin Lal at the DC office here. The Indian team had clinched victory in England, winning five of the seven matches they played.

Virendra's brother, Ashish Thakur, who accompanied him, said after completing his Class XII studies at the age of 15 in 2005, Virendra began practicing cricket rigorously.

He found his way to the Indian team and represented the country in Pakistan as an all-rounder, he added.

Virendra had represented India in eight countries, he said, demanding that the government offer him a job for his contribution towards the game and the country.

The DC said Virendra was a source of inspiration for the youth as he overcame his physical challenges to rise up and play for the Indian team.
