According to a report by digital payments giant Visa, the number of consumers in cities like Howrah, Asansol, Tirupur, and Junagadh, among others, spending over Rs 2 lakh annually on a single card has risen fourfold, compared to 1.4 times in metro cities. This growth comes on the back of rising disposable incomes and purchasing power in non-metro cities, improved digital connectivity enabled by affordable tech, and government initiatives like the Digital India programme.
