The European Space Agency (ESA) has increased the estimated risk of asteroid 2024 YR4 impacting Earth on 22 December 2032, now at 2.2%. First detected on 27 December 2024, the asteroid is currently under observation, with scientists expecting the risk level to change as new data emerges. Measuring between 40 and 90 metres wide, the space rock could cause significant regional damage if it were to impact. However, experts emphasise that continued tracking is likely to rule out the possibility of collision.
