In what seems to be a price war with Tata Motors, JSW MG Motor has announced a significant price cut for its entry-level Comet mini electric vehicle. The EV maker, which recently launched the Windsor at an attractive price of Rs 9.9 lakh, has slashed the Comet's price by a whopping Rs 2 lakh. This new entry price for the Comet mini electric is Rs 2 lakh lower than its previous price. Earlier, the model had undergone a price cut of Rs 1 lakh.At the new price, the Comet has become the cheapest electric vehicle available in India, with its closest rival being the Tata Tiago, priced at Rs 8 lakh. However, the catch is that customers will have to opt for MG's battery rental services. MG stated that customers opting for the Comet at the new price will have to pay a running cost of Rs 2.5 per km for battery usage."We believe that this unique initiative of offering Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) will boost the adoption of zero-emission cars in the country. We have created a platform for easy ownership, making our EVs more accessible than ever," said Satinder Singh Bajwa, Chief Commercial Officer of JSW MG Motor.Previously, the battery rental model was implemented with the launch of the Windsor electric SUV, which has an entry price of Rs 10 lakh and a running cost of Rs 3.5 per km. The Comet EV has a range of 230 km on a single charge.
