TUNISIA: President Kais Saied was inaugurated for a second term today and called for a “cultural revolution” to combat unemployment, fight terrorism and root out corruption.

The 66-year-old former law professor suspended the country’s parliament, rewrote its post-Arab Spring constitution and jailed dozens of his critics in politics, media, business and civil society during his first term.

PAKISTAN: Two men armed with daggers killed two transgender women at their home in the conservative north-west overnight before fleeing the scene, police said, a sign of increasing violence against trans people in the country.

The attack happened on Sunday night in Mardan, a city in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, local police said, and two suspected have been arrested in connection with the killings.  

PERU: Former President Alejandro Toledo was sentenced to 20 years and six months in prison in a case involving Brazilian construction giant Odebrecht, following years of delays in the case.

Authorities accused Mr Toledo of accepting $35 million (£27m) in bribes from Odebrecht in exchange for allowing the construction of a highway in the South American country.

US: Seven new lawsuits have been filed against Hip Hop mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs in a federal court in New York, as four men and three women accuse him of sexually assaulting them at various parties in Los Angeles, New York and Las Vegas.

The youngest plaintiff was 13 at the time of her rape. Mr Combs has faced a year of allegations, ranging from rape and sexual assault to grooming and domestic violence, and could face more than 100 legal cases.
