This year’s awards season got underway in a big way on Sunday night with the 82nd Golden Globes.

And we’re excited to report that there were a few surprises on the night.

Unlike most major awards shows, the Golden Globes ceremony recognises performers from both the big and small screen, meaning even more A-listers than normal walk away with prizes on the night.

Going into Sunday’s ceremony, the polarising Netflix musical Emilia Pérez was the most-recognised project, with 10 nominations in total, including nods for cast members Karla Sofía Gascón, Selena Gomez, Zoe Saldaña and director Jacques Audiard.

In the end, the night’s movie wins were pretty evenly distributed, with four for Emilia Pérez and three for The Brutalist – but the ceremony wasn’t without its shocks.

Among them were Demi Moore beating frontrunners Cynthia Erivo and Mikey Madison for the Best Actress In A Musical Or Comedy prize, while Fernanda Torres scooped the Drama equivalent over global A-listers like Nicole Kidman and Angelina Jolie.

Similarly, Emilia Pérez star Zoe scooped Best Supporting Actress In A Film over Ariana Grande for Wicked, who many had considered to be a shoo-in in the lead-up to awards season.

Meanwhile, The Bear was the most-nominated show of 2025, but won just one, with Jeremy Allen White not actually attending the ceremony to collect his prize for Best Actor In A TV Musical Or Comedy.

Instead, Shōgun was the big winner when it came to the TV prizes at the Golden Globes, triumphing in four categories overall, including wins for cast members Hiroyuki Sanada, Anna Sawai and Tadanobu Asano.
