We all love glimpsing a questing hedgehog in the evening, little realising that our gardens are becoming an increasingly important refuge for these small prickly mammals. In fact, The International Union for Conservation of Nature [IUCN], which monitors mammal, fungi and plant numbers globally has recently added the West European Hedgehog to its list of ‘near threatened’ species on its red list of endangered species. It’s estimated that the population has declined globally by 30% over the last 10 years.
