Review: An t-Eilean (The Island) Exterior, night. The camera swoops across the isles, homing in on a castle window. A shot is fired. We see the wreckage of a disturbance. A second blast rings out. Cut to Paris, middle of night, the phone goes. “Eilidh,” says a voice, “your mother and I have been shot”. I’ve a feeling we’re not in an episode of Take the High Road now, eh Toto? Even Garnock Way wasn’t as edgy and counter to the accepted tourist view of Scotland as An t-Eilean (The Island), currently being marketed by the BBC as “the UK’s first ever high-end Gaelic drama series”.
