The issues raised with us all on the city’s doorsteps as Labour election candidates back in 2023 were many and varied, but one question came up time and time again in every corner of the city. That question was; despite having had 2 Green administrations, why is our recycling among the worst in the country? Now we all know what the Greens’ response to this was; to perpetuate the myth that our recycling can’t be improved because of a long-term contract signed by Labour back in 2003. Well last week we bust that myth once and for all. Starting this spring, we will be adding the following materials to the council’s kerbside and communal recycling collections: plastic pots, tubs & trays – fruit punnets/trays, yoghurt pots, margarine tubs etc; aluminium foil, including foil trays; food and drink cartons – tetrapaks for things like fruit juice and plant-based milks, soup cartons, kids fruit juice, pringles tubes, gravy granule pots. And all within that same contract that the Greens attacked us on.
