A WOMAN has died following a road traffic collision in Whitehaven. The collision, which was reported at 7:50am yesterday (19 January), occurred on Cleator Moor Road and involved a police car and a white Suzuki Celerio. The driver of the Suzuki was a 64-year-old woman from Cleator Moor. She was taken to hospital, however sadly died earlier today (20 January). Specialist officers are continuing to support her family. The driver of the police vehicle, a male officer aged in his 20s, suffered serious injuries. An independent investigation into this incident will be conducted by the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC). Detective Chief Superintendent David Ashton, Cumbria Constabulary, said: “Our thoughts and condolences are with the family of the woman who has sadly died. “The Constabulary will fully support the IOPC’s independent investigation into this incident to establish the full circumstances.”
