A bill to introduce assisted dying will come before parliament this month giving MPs their first chance to vote on the controversial and divisive issue for almost a decade, potentially paving the way to a change in the law.

The Labour MP Kim Leadbeater said her private member’s bill would give terminally ill, eligible adults a choice at the end of life to shorten their deaths and ensure stronger protections for them and their loved ones in the aftermath.
