The National Day for Truth and Reconciliation or Orange Shirt Day was commemorated in Portage la Prairie with an honour walk, cultural performances, and heartfelt speeches at the National Indigenous Residential School Museum of Canada. The event, hosted by United Way of Central Plains and the Portage la Prairie Community Revitalization Corporation, brought together community members to reflect on the devastating effects of residential schools and the ongoing path toward reconciliation. Lorraine Daniels, executive director of the museum and a second-generation residential school survivor, spoke on the importance of the day and emphasized the need to pass the stories of residential schools to future generations.
